Ted MashimaDr. Ted Mashima (Wildlife Res. ’96) has been recruited away from the very innovative Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine to a position that offers him the chance to make his long held aspirations to contribute in the world of major nonprofit charitable institutions a reality. Beginning in mid March, Ted left the hallowed halls of academe to be the President and CEO of the Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund. The fund’s offices are in Washington DC, making the transition for Ted’s family extremely easy. Founded in 2003, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) is the primary national organization that promotes the pursuit of higher education among Asian and Pacific Islander American students by distributing scholarships to qualified first-year undergraduate college, university, and vocational school students.

Ted Mashima treating elephantTed and his delightful wife and partner Julie are the very proud parents of a horde of precocious youngsters who work hard at helping Ted keep his perspective and roots in veterinary medicine. The new position is only the latest of many challenges that Ted has taken on since leaving NCSU. Besides mentoring his children in the wonders of the animal world, Ted is working with fellow EMC alum Lucy Spelman editing a collection of short stories. He will miss his veterinary students, but is looking forward to his new challenges with enthusiasm.
